I have always loved the idea of round tarot cards. However, in less than 10 minutes I determined that I needed to send them back. The packaging is a very odd combination of very high quality design and poor execution. The 1st thing I noticed was that the larger box lining wasn't fully glued down...no biggie, as you don't really notice it when the deck and book is inside. There is a round box inside the larger box for the deck. The paper used to make the cover is very thin and you can see all the little flaps underneath which wrinkle the top. This could have been solved by using thicker paper/cardboard for the top (and the bottom, though you don't look at that as much. This contrasts with the beautiful outer box outside with magnetic closure, nice smooth, thick paper, and offset well that allows the book to rest flat on top of the deck. The book that comes with it is very nicely bound, though there is only 1 page of info per card in handwriting rather than typewritten, makes it hard to read, plus a full size picture and some text written vertically and tinily in the margins. When you open the inner round box you see the backside of the cards which is a faceted diamond/gem. I don't know if it was an error or a stylistic choice but the resolution looks extremely grainy, again, giving it a cheap feel. When I took a pic for this review I zoomed in and could see that there was actually a pattern, so it seems as though it might have been intentional, but the effect is still just very cheap looking. None of these flaws in themselves would make me return the product but the main problem is the cards themselves-- they seem to be die-cut and the backside of each is sharp and rough and slightly raised! Just handling them for a few minutes abraded my skin and I can easily see myself getting paper cuts during regular quick shuffling. The cards are thin and on the matte side, which personally I don't mind, but I know many prefer thicker and more luxe card heft and feel. They also don't shuffle easily b/c of the raised edge. I'll include a pic. All of these issues and the need to send them back prevented me from even feeling into the artwork and power of the oracle itself. I might keep this deck on my radar and see if it goes to a reprint that fixes these issues and give it another try but right now, this deck has an identity problem or quality control issues or something. I can't imagine if this work of art were my baby and I got the sample, I would have given it the green light for production, and if I had gotten the first orders I would have literally halted the presses and not let these be released until the flaws were corrected. Disappointing, to say the least.Update: well now it's the next morning and I've bounced back from my issues about the quality enough to have a good look at the cards.....There is a lot of power and something real here. It was also light enough for me to read the tiny print in the book (which I couldn't even with my reading glasses at night) and I love the suggested spreads...they feel like they add something new to the menu of popular spreads....and I can see how working with the archetypes in this way could be very powerful, so I added an additional star- but that's still 1 star off for the general manufacturing quality issues and another b/c they are unusable. Unfortunately, I still need to send them back because the raised edges on the cards makes them uncomfortable/abrasive to hold and impossible to shuffle.I even tried smoothing down the raised edge with a bone folder, and got it a little flatter after several minutes of vigorous rubbing, but I'm sure not motivated to do that for all 78 cards! ...but I will check back in a few months to see if the manufacturing issues have been resolved.
